SuitUP™ Crazy 9's

SuitUP™ Crazy 9’s

Objective

End the round with the lowest total score by flipping, replacing, and managing the cards in your 3×3 grid. Avoid high-value cards, protect low cards, and prevent unwanted sets from removing valuable negatives.

Setup
Deck: SuitUP™ 8-suit deck (with or without Wild Cards).
Players: Best with 2–4 players.

Dealing:

  • Each player is dealt 9 cards, face down.
  • Arrange them in a 3×3 grid without looking.
  • The remaining cards form the draw pile.
  • Flip the top card of the draw pile to start the discard pile.

Starting Reveal:
Each player flips one card of their choice in their grid to begin.

How to Play
Play proceeds clockwise.

Pick a Card
Choose one: Top card of the discard pile, or Top card of the draw pile

Play the Card
Option A — Replace a Face-Up Card

  • Replace any face-up card in your grid with the card you drew.
  • Discard the replaced card.

Option B — Decline the Card - If you don’t want the drawn card:

  • Discard it immediately.
  • Then flip one face-down card in your grid.

Creating Sets
You may create three cards of the same number. (Suits do not matter.)
When a 3 set is created the entire row containing those three cards is removed from your grid. Removed cards score 0.

Card Values

  • Kings = 0
  • Twos = –2 (Powerful low cards, but if you accidentally create three 2s, the row disappears and you lose valuable negative points.)
  • Number Cards = face value (e.g., 7 = 7 points)
  • Face Cards (Ace, Queen, Jack) = 10
  • Action Cards (optional) = 20

Double Trouble Rule
When a player flips over their final face-down card: If that player does not have the lowest score, their entire round score is doubled. This keeps the ending tense and strategic.

Ending the Round
The round ends when one player has revealed all 9 cards in their grid.
All players total the values of their remaining cards:

  • Kings: 0
  • Twos: –2
  • Number cards: face value
  • A/Q/J: 10
  • Action Cards: 20
The player with the lowest score wins.

Strategy Tips

  • Avoid completing a row of 2s unless it benefits you.
  • Remove Wild Cards as soon as you safely can.
  • Protect Kings — they stabilize your score.
  • Declining a card to flip a new one can help late-game, but it’s risky.
  • Pay attention to which cards opponents replace or reveal — it can guide your decisions.
